Wash your hands! Don’t touch your face! We have to be on our toes when it comes to cleanliness. Keeping up your own routines can be difficult when stores are sold out of our everyday products.

But with store-bought brands, there is also a risk of artificial fragrances and harsh chemicals, which could cause more damage while trying to protect. How can we keep it natural?

Just Act Natural…

As you know, I’m a big fan of essential oils, not just because of fragrances but because I believe that they can support you in body, mind, and soul. One of the most significant issues with store-bought products like hand sanitizers is not only the harsh chemicals and the drying effects on your skin, but also that they contain artificial fragrances, and often leave you with that alcohol or cheap perfume smell.

Enter my favorite oil company – doTERRA. How often have you heard the line – I’ve got an oil for that? In this case, they do have one for everything! I’d love for you to meet “OnGuard.” I can’t get enough of this oil blend!

OnGuard not only smells fantastic but this blend of Cinnamon, Wild Orange, Eucalyptus, Rosemary and Clove oils, is a favorite for diffusing. It also is so versatile in how you can use it. I’ve shared in the past a recipe for foaming hand soap using OnGuard, but did you know you can use it to make an all-purpose cleaner, a sanitizing mist, or even use it to rinse off your fruit and vegetables from the store? (There are many hints in my Healthy Happy Home eBook!) I love its versatility, and also the clean and natural fragrance it has.

One of the best ways to use it is in your very own DIY hand sanitizer! Are you ready for the recipe? Here goes!

DIY Hand Sanitizer with doTERRA OnGuard Essential Oil

What I love about this recipe is it’s so simple. Aloe Vera keeps your skin soft, but also has its own properties that help with healing small wounds and assisting your skin to retain moisture. Using 99% rubbing alcohol helps effectively kill the germs, as the higher the alcohol content, the better it works. We already talked about why I love OnGuard, but it gives the recipe an overall boost and also adds in a natural, clean fragrance instead of that harsh chemical smell of other DIY hand sanitizers.

 Recipe

  •  5 tablespoons of aloe vera gel (add a little more if you like.)
  • 4 tablespoons of hot water
  • 15 drops of OnGuard
  • 2/3 cup 99% rubbing alcohol

Combine all of the above into a bowl (or a jug!) and stir until combined. Carefully pour the mixture into your favorite pump pack, and it’s ready to use!

How simple is it to protect your hands, and yourself naturally? It’s as easy as 4 ingredients and 5 minutes of your time! doTERRA also just released a quick video on some other DIY products – you can see them here:
